Xiaomi is making the headlines with its Mi Note 2, Mi MIX, Redmi 3S and Redmi 3S Prime flash sales, but Meizu has stepped into the game with its new budget offering. Succeeding the ultra-affordable m3 smartphone, Meizu launched the all-new M5 smartphone with competitive specs and features at an affordable price.
Meizu M5 was launched in China starting at ¥699 (around Rs. 7,000) for the 2GB RAM + 16GB ROM variant and ¥899 (around Rs. 9,000) for 3GB RAM + 32GB storage model. The new handset's availability in India is unknown, but it could give a tough competition to Xiaomi Redmi 3S Prime, which is priced at Rs. 8,999, if launched.
The chances of Meizu M5's arrival in India are slim right now, considering affordable Meizu m3s smartphone went on sale in India just last week. But do not throw the possibility of seeing this new budget phone in India out of the window just yet.
In terms of specifications, the Meizu M5 comes with series of improvements compared to its previous iterations. The handset sports a 5.2-inch HD display with 2.5D curved glass and 282ppi. It features a 13MP primary camera with PDAF, f/2.2 aperture, 5P Lens and a dual-tone LED flash. On the front, there is a 5MP camera with f/2.0 aperture and 4P Lens for selfies.
Meizu M5 is powered by a MediaTek MT670 octa-core processor, a 3,070mAh battery and Yun OS 5.1 with Flyme UI 5.5. Among the biggest highlights of the M5 smartphone is the fingerprint scanner integrated within the home button, which also functions as a back button. According to the company, the biometric sensor can unlock the device in just 0.2 seconds.
Meizu M5 also comes with dual SIM card support, one of which doubles up as a microSD card slot, 4G VoLTE, gyroscope, along with other standard connectivity options and sensors. Despite all that, Meizu did not opt for the metal design and stuck with the polycarbonate body just like its predecessor. For those who value design, Meizu's m3s has metal unibody design for a low cost.
Meizu M5 comes in five colour options, matte black, mint green, blue, champagne gold and white, giving buyers a wide range of options to choose from.
