Chinese consumer electronics major Xiaomi is slated to launch a new budget handset, Redmi 3S, in India on Aug. 3.
To provide a better perspective on the Xiaomi device, we have listed some key attributes which users can use to make an informed decision when buying the Redmi 3S.
Here's Top five key features that make Redmi 3S a compelling buy:
Build quality:
Xiaomi Redmi 3S boasts all-metal body that gives a sturdy structure to withstand an accidental fall. The smooth texturing of the metal cover makes the device look truly premium and expensive.
It has to be noted that the Redmi 3S is expected to cost under Rs. 9,000. Once released, it will be the most premium looking device in the budget smartphone market.
[NOTE: In China, Redmi 3S sold in two variants — 2GB RAM+16GB storage and 3GB RAM+32GB storage configurations for ¥699 (around $107/€94/Rs. 7,135) and ¥899 (around $136/€121/Rs. 9,177), respectively.]
Powerful processor:
Xiaomi Redmi 3 houses a 64-bit class Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 quad-core (1.4GHz ARM Cortex A53 x 8) CPU with Adreno 430 graphics engine, making it the most powerful device in the budget segment.
The Snapdragon 430 chipset also comes with a dedicated digital signal microprocessor, which is said to work only on low-power operation of a device in applications that deal with analog signals such as audio, video, and mobile broadband signals. By taking the load off the main processor, it improves the performance of the device.
Impressive camera:
Besides top-notch build quality, Redmi 3S comes with superior camera hardware as well. It sports a 13MP camera with 5-physical lens, f/2.0 aperture, PDAF (Phase Detection Auto Focus) with 0.1 second phase focusing speed, HDR and full HD video recording.
On the front, it houses an equally impressive 5MP camera with f/2.2 aperture, full HD video recording ability and face-recognition feature. To further enhance the photography experience, Xiaomi has integrated 36-intelligent self-portrait selfie styles.
Battery:
The compact Redmi 3S houses a pretty massive 4,100mAh battery, same as that in the 5.5-inch Redmi Note 3. In May, we reviewed the latter model and it impressed us a lot.
During our testing, a fully charged Redmi Note 3 lasted one-and-a-half days under mixed usage, which involved taking calls, occasional browsing of internet, few minutes of video playback and watching videos on YouTube for about half an hour.
So, Redmi 3S owners can expect their device to last even longer considering the fact that it features 5.0-inch HD screen.

Security:
Xiaomi Redmi 3S uses fingerprint sensor. It is ergonomically placed on the rear-side (below primary camera module) for easy access. With biometric technology in place, it will provide a second layer of protection to the data stored in the phone.
Thanks to Xiaomi's MIUI v7.0 (based on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop) software, users can also lock individual app with finger-print security feature.
