Last week, Xiaomi confirmed that it would unveil the new MIUI 7.0 version in Beijing on 13 August. Now the company's official blog has revealed that there will be more than one surprise announcement on Thursday, leading many to believe that the rumoured Redmi Note 2 too might be launched.
"Hello, My dear Mi fans and MIUI fans, Today (13 August) is the big day. We are celebrating the 5th anniversary of MIUI and unveiling more than one surprises of Xiaomi. Just stay tuned, " said Xiaomi's official MIUI forum administrator.
Adding fuel to fire, popular Chinese e-commerce firm Oppomart has listed the Redmi Note 2 on its website revealing key features and price details of the device.
Here are expected features of the soon-to-be-released Xiaomi Redmi Note 2:
Display:
First generation Redmi Note model features 5.5-inch HD display with pixel density of 267 ppi (pixels per inch). Now new reports suggest that Xiaomi has reportedly kept the same screen size, but has doubled the resolution to full HD with 401 ppi pixel density.
Processor, Storage and RAM capacity:
In 2014, Xiaomi released Redmi Note in two variants – one with Snapdragon 400 processor and another with MediaTek based Octa-core. This time, the company will be launching only one variant with MediaTek's latest Helio X10 Octa-core CPU.
Redmi Note 2 is said to house 2GB RAM and 16GB storage capacity same as seen in its predecessor.
Camera:
Redmi Note 2 is expected to come packed with 13mp main camera and 5mp snapper on the front. Though the camera specification is similar to it predecessor, image processing in the 2015 model is said to be superior thanks to the use Sony IMX214, the very sensor used in current flagship Mi4. And the new OS MIUI v7.0 is also expected to come with value-added applications to enhance the photography experience.
Mobile Operating System:
As said before, Redmi Note 2 will ship with the new MIUI 7.0 out-of-the-box. There is very little to know about the new Xiaomi software other than the fact that it will be based on Google's latest Android 5.1.x Lollipop OS.
Price:
As per the listing on the Oppomart, Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 will be priced at $199 (around €180/₹13,000).
