A few hours ago, two top MNC brands Xiaomi and Asus launched top-notch mid-range smartphones – Mi 4i and Zenfone 2 -- in India.
Both the handsets will be up against popular brands like Micromax YU Yureka and Moto G (2 Gen).
To provide a better perspective on these phones, we have briefly described the key specifications of Xiaomi Mi4i, YU Yureka, Asus Zenfone 2 (ZE551ML/ZE550ML) and Moto G (2 Gen).
[Note: we are using Asus Zenfone 2 device models ZE551ML with 2GB RAM and ZE550ML in this comparison story as it falls in the same price range of the aforementioned devices]
Display:
Asus Zenfone 2 (ZE551ML) boasts 5.5-inch full HD (1920x1080p) IPS screen with wide 178-degree viewing angle. It also boasts of ASUS TruVivid display technology and is protected by Gorilla Glass 3 shield. Its cheaper variant ZE550ML sports a 5.5-inch HD screen.
On the other hand, the new Xiaomi Mi 4i flaunts a 5.0-inch full HD Sharp / JDI OGS (One Glass Solution) full laminated screen and having pixel density of 441 ppi (pixels per inch). It is protected by Gorilla Glass 3.
Moto G (Gen 2) sports a 5.0-inch HD (1280x720p) IPS screen with pixel density of 294 ppi (pixels per inch) and is protected by Gorilla Glass 3 shield.
YU Yureka features 5.5-inch HD (720x1280p) screen with 80-degree viewing angle.
Processor, RAM and Storage:
Both Asus Zenfone 2 models -- ZE551ML with 2GB RAM and ZE550ML -- house a 64-bit class based 2.3GHz Intel Atom processor Z3580 and 1.8GHz Intel Atom processor Z3560 respectively.
They are backed by the same PowerVR G6430 graphics engine, 2GB RAM and 16GB inbuilt memory (+ 64GB via microSD card).
Xiaomi Mi4i and YU Yureka come packed with the second generation 64-bit class based Snapdragon 615 Octa-core SoC (System on Chip), manufactured by the industry leader, Qualcomm.
One advantage of having 64-bit processor is that the phone's performance and RAM management will more be optimised and efficiently used among the apps. Users are less likely to face lag during multi-tasking.
Secondly, new Android applications starting this year will roll-out with 64-bit architecture compliant codes, making Xiaomi Mi 4i future-proof.
Snapdragon 615 chipset comes with H.265/High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) which enables in faster computational operations.
It will be aptly backed by Adreno 405 graphics engine, 2GB DDR3 RAM and 16GB inbuilt memory.
On the other hand, Moto G (2 Gen) features sub-par and old Snapdragon 400 series quad-core chipset. It has 2GB RAM and 16GB inbuilt memory (expandable up to 32GB)
Mobile Operating System:
In this aspect, all phones stand even as they run on same Android 5.0 Lollipop OS but, differ in user-interface.
Xiaomi Mi4i comes with feature-rich custom MIUI v6.0, whereas the YU Yureka and Asus Zenfone runs on Cyanogen CM12 S OS and ZenUI respectively.

Moto G (2 Gen) runs on near-stock vanilla Lollipop OS giving buttery smooth interface to the users.
Camera:
Asus Zenfone 2 houses a feature-rich 13.0-megapixel camera with PixelMaster technology, Backlight (HDR) mode, f/ 2.0 aperture, and 5mp snapper on the front with 88-degree field of view and also comes with ZenUI Selfie Panorama mode which can capture panoramic selfies with up to a 140-degree field of view.
Micromax YU Yureka packs a 13MP camera with Sony Exmor RS sensor, Blue-lens architecture, 5-physical element lens, f/2.2 aperture, 75.4 degree wide-angle, full HD (1080p) resolution recording, LED flash and a pretty decent 5.0-megapixel camera with 71-degree angle lens, which is certain to cheer selfie enthusiasts.
Xiaomi Mi 4i too features a 13mp Sony/Samsung camera with dual-tone LED flash, f/2.0 aperture, auto-focus, HDR, touch-focus, full HD video recording ability and a 5mp snapper with 80-degree wide-angle lens, f/1.8 aperture with full HD video recording ability which is certain to please the selfie aficionados.
On the other hand, Motorola Moto G (Gen 2.) comes packed with 8.0-megapixel camera on the rear side with LED flash, Auto Focus, Slow Motion Video, Burst Mode, Auto HDR, Panorama, Tap to Focus, HD (720p) video recording ability and a 2.0-megapixel snapper on the front side with HD video recording ability.
[Note: More mega-pixel count in the camera does not guarantee a good quality photograph. It all depends on the type of the lens, size and aperture.]
Price:
Price is one of the most important aspects of this comparison article as it plays a crucial role in the minds of the price-sensitive middle class working population, which form the biggest chunk of the India's demography.
Asus has confirmed that the new Zenfone 2 series - ZE551ML (4GB RAM/64GB memory), ZE551ML (4GB RAM/32GB memory), ZE551ML (2GB RAM/16GB memory) and ZE550ML will be priced – ₹22,999, ₹19,999, ₹14,999 and ₹12,999 respectively.
Prospective buyers can pre-register for these Zenfone 2 models starting 23 April on Flipkart (HERE) and exclusive Asus stores across India. All models are expected to hit stores in two weeks time.

Xiaomi Mi 4i comes with a price-tag of just ₹12,999 and will go on sale initially on Flipkart on 30 April via flash sale. Later, it will be made available with other partners - Amazon India, Snapdeal, The Mobile Store and also on the official Mi store (online).

YU Yureka is available exclusively on Amazon India via Flash sale on every Thursday for ₹8,999, whereas the Moto G (2 Gen) can be grabbed anytime on Flipkart for ₹12,999.
