Updated on October 26:
Hugo Barra, Xiaomi's VP, confirmed to IBTimes, India, that the company has no plans to launch Mi Note 2 and Mi MIX in India.
Original story...
In a shocking revelation, Xiaomi's global VP Hugo Barra was quoted by Phone Radar's Editor-in-chief Amit Bhawani stating that the Mi Note 2 and Mi MIX smartphones will not hit the Indian shores at all. This comes as a surprise as the Mi Note 2 could have many takers for its impressive spec-sheet and reasonable cost.
Xiaomi has strong presence in India, where it is witnessing record-breaking sales of smartphones. The company's head Lei Jun recently congratulated Barra and Manu Kumar Jain, the company's India chief, for achieving a significant milestone of selling more than 1 million smartphones in just 18 days.
Xiaomi is aiming to acquire the largest market share in India within 3-5 years, but keeping India away from crucial product launches such as the Mi Note 2 may not bode so well for the company.
It is often the company's practice to launch any new product in its home country before releasing it in the international markets. Xiaomi launches its products in India sooner or later, but Barra's statement regarding Mi Note 2 and Mi MIX not coming to India is a bit startling.
IBTimes, India could not independently verify the information with Barra or Bhawani but we have reached out to Xiaomi separately regarding a statement on the matter. We'll update the story when we receive a response.
