If you have been hoping to see a mini variant of the Mi MIX concept phone that was released by Xiaomi last month, then don't get your hopes high. According to the company's marketing director Zang Zhiyuan, Xiaomi has no product such as the Mi MIX Nano in the works.
Zhiyuan confirmed the news on Weibo, but the post has since been taken down, which leaves us with assumptions about what exactly is Xiaomi's plan for such a device. If we are being optimistic, then it would seem Zhiyuan denied the existence of "no such product as Xiaomi Mi MIX Nano", but the idea of a mini Mi MIX version is not thrown out of the window.
It is possible Xiaomi might launch a mini variant of the Mi MIX, but not call it Mi MIX Nano if we take Zhiyuan's word for it. But the possibilities are endless and nothing is certain unless the company confirms it otherwise.
Xiaomi Mi MIX Nano has been making the rounds of the internet and generating a lot of interest. The handset is expected to be launched sometime early next month. As for the specs, it will likely get a smaller 5.5-inch display with 90 percent screen-to-body ratio, which is reasonably comfortable to hold compared to the 6.4-inch Mi MIX.
Other rumoured specifications include a Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 chipset, 4GB RAM, Android 6.0 Marshmallow and 64GB storage. The design is expected to replicate the original Mi MIX, which is well received by users and critics alike.
An early report suggested that the mini variant of the Mi MIX will cost nearly as much as the Mi MIX. It is expected to cost ¥3000, which roughly translates to about Rs. 30,000. Xiaomi had launched the Mi MIX for ¥3499, but the company has made it clear that it will not be available in India.
Going by the Mi MIX's popularity, the mini variant will also have many takers. It is up to Xiaomi to take advantage of that demand or not.
