Xiaomi is keeping a tight lid on the details of its upcoming flagship, but rumours continue to reveal key details of the Mi 5 smartphone. True or not, these leaked specs, images and price details are the closest thing we have right now to official information. New details have emerged teasing the Mi 5 in official-looking renders, which let us in on key changes expected in the upcoming flagship.
According to GforGames, the leaked render may not be completely accurate, but sources have revealed that the design is very close to the final one. Considering its true, the leaked image by a Chinese publication, Zaeke, shows the front and bottom design of the Mi 5 smartphone.
By the looks of it, Xiaomi will feature a physical home button with integrated fingerprint scanner in it, which is said to be the smallest and fastest biometric sensor in the market. The display will feature a 2.5D glass sheet, which has slight curves on the outline. At the bottom portion of the device, Mi 5 is seen featuring a USB Type-C port surrounded by thin antenna bands and speaker grille on both sides.
The rear side of the device was not shown in the leaked images, but GforGames says a 3D glass will be seen at the rear panel. Clearly, Mi 5 will feature a metal frame with chamfered edges.
Under the hood, Xiaomi is expected to feature the industry's top-of-the-line specs. Earlier reports revealed that Mi 5 would be the first flagship to feature the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chipset. Other rumoured specs include 3GB/4GB RAM and 32GB/64GB storage depending on the model, 5.2-inch Quad-HD display with Gorilla Glass 4 protection, 20MP primary camera with PDAF, OIS and dual LED flash, and an 8MP front-snapper.
Xiaomi Mi 5 will run the latest Android 6.0 Marshmallow-based MIUI 7 OS and have a 3,000mAh battery. It is also believed that Xiaomi will integrate Apple-like 3D Touch technology in its Mi 5's display.
In terms of pricing, Xiaomi is likely to hit the gold spot. The 32GB variant with 3GB RAM will reportedly cost CNY 1,999 (approximately Rs 20,300) and the 64GB model with 4GB RAM will sell for CNY 2,288 (roughly Rs 23,400). There is no concrete evidence as to when the Mi 5 will be officially launched, but word is it will easily be pushed into the later part 2016.
