Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi that hogged limelight with its Mi series of smartphones may soon join the smartwatch race.
Keeping in tune with the interest that smartwatches seem to hold among consumers, many brands such as Samsung, Motorola, Lenovo, HP, Apple and ASUS have either launched a smartwatch or are in the process of unveiling one.
While there are quite a few smartwatches in the market, Xiaomi's entry into the segment would be interesting as the Chinese consumer electronics vendor offers products at throw away prices.
The brand's VP, Hugo Barra recently released a video note on YouTube and said: "you'd be absolutely amazed if you'd see all the things that we experiment with here at Xiaomi."
He also added that smartwatch is one of their future projects but the company is yet to decide when the product will be launched.
Significantly Xiaomi has already rolled out a fitness band in the Chinese market. Mi Band is priced very aggressively and can only be paired with mi brand of smartphones. The company is yet to decide about its release in India.
Meanwhile, Xiaomi is still selling its entrant level Smartphone Redmi 1s through pre-booking sales on Flipkart. As of now, the phone is put up on sale every Tuesday on the site.
Though Xiaomi has stopped taking bookings for Xiaomi mi 3 smartphones, the Redmi Note will soon be available in the country. There are clues that they might launch their flagship smartphone mi 4 thereafter.
