Xiaomi has launched a new edition of its affordable phone Redmi 2.
Named Enhanced Redmi 2, the latest smartphone packs 2GB RAM and 16GB of storage. Other features of Redmi 2 like SoC, Camera and Display remain the same in the latest edition.
Some months ago, Lenovo also launched an upgraded variant of its budget smartphone A6000. The A6000 Plus also offers double the memory and storage while retaining other hardware features.
With the launch of the Enhanced Redmi 2, Xiaomi is likely to take on the Lenovo A6000 Plus, while the Redmi 2 will face off with Lenovo A6000.
To impress budget consumers, Xiaomi has also cut down the price of Redmi 2 by ₹1000 to ₹5,999.
The Enhanced Redmi 2 edition is available only in Singapore for $149, which roughly translates to ₹9,741. But in India, Xiaomi might launch it in the same price bracket as that of Lenovo A6000 Plus. The Lenovo A6000 Plus is available in India exclusively through Flipkart for ₹7,499.
Xiaomi Redmi 2, the successor to Redmi 1s features LTE connectivity with dual SIM slot. Measuring 134x67.2x9.4mm, the Redmi 2S weighs 133g and sports a 4.7-inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen with 720x1280 pixels resolution at 312 PPI. The touchscreen protects itself from scratches with an overlaid Corning Gorilla Glass 2 protection.
Powered by a Qualcomm MSM8916 Snapdragon 410 SoC with a Quad Core 1.2GHz Cortex A53 processor, Adreno 306 GPU the Redmi 2 is available with 1/2GB RAM, 8/16GB of inbuilt storage variant and both the versions feature a microSD card slot with expandability support up to 32GB.
The device further packs an 8MP rear camera and a 2MP front camera.
