Xiaomi launches affordable smartwatch Mi Bunny for children; price, specifications

Chinese consumer electronics major Xiaomi launched a new smartwatch called the Mi Bunny for children on April 30.

The highlight of the new Xiaomi Mi Bunny smartwatch is it boasts security zone feature wherein a parent can use a smartphone to set the daily travel route of their child's school and also the surrounding area of the house.

If the kid goes beyond the prescribed range, an emergency alert with location details will reportedly be passed to the parent's phone. Even the child, if faced with a dire situation, can press the power button to activate the emergency protocol and get immediate assistance. The smartwatch can store 12 family members' contact details. The Xiaomi device also reportedly comes with a pre-installed SIM (Unicom) and allows the child to make and receive voice calls as well.

Xiaomi Mi Bunny apparently comes with an LED-based lamp array dot screen and houses a 300mAh Lithium-Polymer cell, which can keep it running for close to six days in standby mode.

The new Mi Bunny is available in China via the company's official e-commerce site Mi.com (HERE) for ¥299 (around $46/€40.35/Rs. 3,068). It comes in blue and pink colour options.

As of now, there is no word on when Xiaomi will launch the Mi Bunny in India and other global markets.

In a related development, Liu DeXiaomi, co-founder (& vice-president), Xiaomi has revealed the company will be launching a full-fledged smartwatch in the second half of 2016.
