Xiaomi has announced a new payment feature for its customers on Mi.com and Mi Store app. Now, customers can make payments through Google. Earlier this month, Google had announced that its Tez app had surpassed the mark of 12 million active users in India.

Google Tez is based on NPCI's Unified Payments Interface (UPI) platform and offers features like direct, bank-to-bank payments, 'cash' mode for transactions and more.

Xiaomi India Managing Director and Vice President Manu Kumar Jain said in a Twitter post, "Mi fans! Happy to announce that Mi.com now accepts payments via @TezbyGoogle @Google! Basically, Google Tez was rolled out in September and this app is designed for India and it is available for Android and iOS users. Tez app has a chat-based User-Interface, and users need their Gmail account as well as the mobile number to make transactions. Aadhaar verification is not required for payments so far.

In a press statement, Xiaomi highlights that Mi.com get over 21 million unique visitors in a month and over a million daily active users, on the other side the Mi Store app on Google Play has crossed over 20 million app installs with more than six million organic downloads to date.

Moreover, the Google Tez integration would give Xiaomi customers another reason to use its e-commerce platforms against competitive online markets like Amazon and Flipkart, as this would give them the option to pay for their purchases directly using their Tez UPI IDs.

Sujith Narayanan, Head of Partnerships and Business Development, Tez, said, "As a merchant partner for Tez for business programme, all Xiaomi customers can now seamlessly and securely pay with any bank account stored in their Tez account on their phone."

Meanwhile, Xiaomi is hosting its No.1 Mi Fan Sale on the Mi.com. During the sale, the company will offer smartphones Mi Mix 2, Redmi Note 4, Redmi 4, etc. Xiaomi will also accept Google Tez-powered payments for transactions made during the sale as well.
