Ever since Sania Mirza and Martina Hingis decided to join hands in the doubles competition, they have dominated the WTA circuit like no other. The Indo-Swiss pair has added yet another title -- Wuhan Open -- to the list of titles won this year.
Sania-Hingis defeated the Romanian pair of Irina-Camelia Begu and Monica Niculescu in the finals of the competition in straight sets with the score reading 6-2 and 6-3 on Saturday.
Sania and Hingis, who came into the finals brimming with confidence as they had not dropped a single set in the competition, continued their winning ways as they were in top form against the Romanian pair.
As expected, Sania dominated the game from the back court, while Hingis with her quick reflexes and volleys made the Romanian pair look helpless. The match lasted for one hour and nine minutes. In current form, one wonders, if any pair can defeat the Indo-Swiss pairing.
It was another great performance by Sania and Hingis, who are collecting honours one after the other. Sania and Hingis, after deciding to form a pair earlier in the year, have won a number of honours, but their biggest achievement so far has been their two back-to-back grand slams, US Open and Wimbledon.
Apart from the on-field achievements, Sania's progress in the WTA circuit has only seen an upward curve as she attained the number one ranking in the women's doubles, which in due process also helped her win India's highest sporting honour, Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna.
