In a case of what may possibly be the worst animal abuse ever, a report of cruel thugs taping a pregnant dog's mouth shut with a string of firework and lighting it, has gone viral this week. The incident took place in Mexico.
The brutal ill-treatment meted out to the poor canine, recognised as 'Chola', shattered the animal's jaw. Reports indicate that the dog may even lose its puppies. The incident was reported by the Right Wing News which said that as a result of the heinous act, the dog suffered severe burns inside of its mouth while its jaw was broken.
Vets taking care for the animal in the Mexican city of Torreon believe that the animal was being trained for making it a fighter dog before it got pregnant, the Daily Mail reported. But when they discovered that the dog was pregnant and was no longer of use to them, her abusers were likely trying to kill her, vets said.
"She was very badly hurt, it looks as if she may survive now but will no longer be able to have a life on the street and may well still lose the puppies," Vet Miguel Davila was quoted as saying last week.
"Many of her injuries such as a torn ear are old ones. We believe she was used as bait in dogfights but then was of not much use after she got pregnant."
Animal Protection Association has announced a reward for anyone who might be able to identify those responsible for the attack, the British tabloid has noted.
"We have given her a name, Chola, but to be honest we are avoiding as much contact with her as possible as she is extremely nervous of anybody that she doesn't know well," said Rebecca Reyes, director of the association, adding that she cannot swallow any food because her mouth was badly burned and that she was being fed with liquidised baby food.
