Sonam Kapoor's "Neerja" dominated the worldwide box office in its third week as well, while Priyanka Chopra's "Jai Gangaajal" struggled to finish its first week theatrical run on a decent note.
Neerja
The Sonam-starrer "Neerja" has made box office income of Rs 121.43 crore worldwide in its three-week run. The film, based on the real-life story of flight attendant Neerja Bhanot, saw a decline in its business in the third week, but overall, the film has put up a good run.
"Neerja" minted Rs 67.65 crore net and Rs 96.64 crore gross income from the domestic box office in 21 days, while the 17-day overseas income of the film is approximately Rs 24.79 crore, Bollywood Hungama reports.
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh also posted the domestic figure of "Neerja" and stated that the film has earned a whopping Rs 9.90 crore in its third week run from Indian markets. "#Neerja continues its SUPER run and puts up a SOLID ₹ 9.90 cr in Week 3, taking the 3-week total to ₹ 67.65 cr. India biz... contd," he tweeted, adding: "#Neerja [Wk 3] Fri 1.15 cr, Sat 2.20 cr, Sun 2.69 cr, Mon 1.45 cr, Tue 90 lacs, Wed 81 lacs, Thu 70 lacs. Total: ₹ 67.65 cr. India biz. FAB!"
Directed by Ram Madhvani, "Neerja" was released in approximately 700 theatres Feb. 19. The film features Sonam as Neerja, Shabana Azmi as her mother, Yogendra Tiku as her father and Shekhar Ravjiani as her love interest.
Jai Gangaajal
The Priyanka-starrer "Jai Gangaajal" enjoyed a decent opening weekend, but the film failed to maintain the same momentum during the weekdays. "Jai Gangaajal" earned approximately Rs 29.5 crore net box office collection in its first-week run, Koimoi.com reports. The film, which marks the debut of director Prakash Jha as an actor, had a low overseas run as well.
"Jai Gangaajal" business remained low in its first week and trade experts believe that there is a less chance of the film doing well in its second weekend at the box office.
