India have suffered a huge blow ahead of the semis of the ICC World T20 2016 as star middle-order batsman Yuvraj Singh has been ruled out for the remainder of the tournament. Manish Pandey is replacing him in the squad.
Yuvraj suffered an ankle injury during his team's game against Australia Sunday in Mohali.
"The ICC has confirmed that the Event Technical Committee of the ICC World Twenty20 India 2016 has approved Manish Pandey as a replacement player for Yuvraj Singh in India's squad for the tournament," a media release from the ICC stated.
"Any injury or illness-based replacement requires a written submission to the Event Technical Committee along with a diagnosis from a medical practitioner as to the extent of the injury or illness. Once replaced, a player may not return to the squad save as an approved subsequent replacement for another injured or ill player."
Yuvraj, 34, scored a total of 52 runs and picked up one wicket over the four group games for the Men in Blue in the competition. His replacement, Pandey, 26, meanwhile has played only two T20Is for India, both against Zimbabwe in Harare, July 2015.
India are scheduled to take on West Indies Thursday in the second semi final match of the competition.
