History awaits Chicago Cubs or Cleveland Indians as the famed Major League Baseball (MLB) World Series gets under way on Tuesday. The first of the seven games is being played at the Progressive Field in Cleveland, Ohio.
It has been several years since either of the MLB sides has lifted the World Series title. Chicago Cubs haven't won the coveted championship -- played annually between the American League champion team and the National League champion team -- since 1908, while the Cleveland Indians last won it in 1948.
The two franchises have a combined 176 years of World Series trophy drought between themselves.
World Series 2016 is, therefore, going down in history for reasons more than one and it is for this reason that the average price of tickets for the first two games in Cleveland is close to $4,000. The following two games will be played at Chicago's Wrigley Field, where the ticket prices are expected to be around $7,200, according to ticket tracker TicketIQ.
"With two teams waiting this long for a championship, it will be like a Super Bowl every night in terms of ticket prices," said Jesse Lawrence, the founder and CEO of TicketIQ, as quoted by CNN Money. "We've never seen anything like this before," he said. "We may never see it again."
