To motivate young people to donate organs, Organ Donation Day is celebrated on 13 August every year. While the world celebrates the humans that helped save lives by donating their organs, and those that were saved by the generosity of others on Thursday, we thought it apt to shed light on some of our favourite celebrities that have donated and received organs.
Natasha Richardson: Heart, liver, and kidneys of "The Parent Trap" actress was donated to other people by her husband Liam Neeson, after the actress tragically died in a skiing accident in 2009.
Ann Serrano: Producer and actress Ann Serano donated her kidney to her then-husband George Lopez in 2005. The couple divorced five years later, in 2010.
Jon-Erik Hexum: The star of CBS' "Cover Up", who died of an accidental self-inflicted gunshot to the head in the set, donated his heart, kidneys, corneas, and his skin.
Sarah Hyland: The "Modern Family" star was diagnosed with kidney dysplasia at the age of nine, and struggled with her disease till the age of 21, when her father donated his kidney to her.
Tracy Morgan: The "30 Rock" star, received a kidney from his ex-girlfriend Tanisha Hall in 2011. Although many viewed it as an attempt made by Hall to reconcile with the comedian, the two never got back together, but have remained friends.
Steve Jobs: The Apple CEO who was diagnosed with a pancreas neuroendocrine tumour in 2003 and died of respiratory arrest related to the tumour in 2011, had also experienced medical issues relating to his liver in 2004, and received a liver transplant at the time.
