A 25-year old woman suffered 70 per cent burns on being set ablaze by a jilted lover in Delhi's Bhalswa Dairy late on Sunday. Her condition is stated to be critical.
The main accused has been identified as Abhishek. He was trying to force the woman to accept his wedding proposal for months, but she never accepted the overtures.
According to reports, he went to the woman's house with two friends on Sunday. They had an argument with the woman's family after which they attacked her.
Abhishek and his friends poured kerosene on the woman and set her ablaze. Her family members also sustained burns while attempting to save her.
"A crowd came and started beating us. The boy threatened her, then poured kerosene and set her ablaze," a relative of the victim told ANI. At least three of the woman's family members also suffered burns.
According to police, the injured were taken to a nearby hospital where the victim's condition remains critical.
We have arrested the three men and registered a case of attempt to murder," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (North West) Vijay Singh.
The woman's family members also claim that they had filed a case against Abhishek in the past for allegedly harassing her.
