A 22-year-old woman was allegedly killed by four young men in Ahmedabad when she tried to resist their attempt to rape her on Wednesday night at a secluded spot.
The woman, who was staying in a working women's hostel in the city's Naranpura area, was sitting with her 26-year-old friend Birbal Prasad, near a railway track when the incident occured.
"Prasad arrived here from Mumbai and booked a room in a hotel in Shahibaug area. As per Prasad's complaint, both of them first went to riverfront to spend some time and then came to the hotel room in evening. Later, they went to Usmanpura garden in an auto. At around 10:40pm, the couple decided to take a walk near the railway track before departing," PTI quoted Naranpura police inspector DR Dhamal as saying.
They then decided to sit at a secluded place when the four young men appeared all of a sudden and started demanding sexual favours from the woman.
"When the couple put up some resistance and shouted for help, the young men allegedly attacked them with knives," said Dhamal.
He said some of the youths held Vandana and stabbed her in abdomen while others attacked Birbal.
"Later, Birbal called up police control room in midnight. We took them to Sola civil hospital, where Vandana was declared dead," the officer added.
