A woman allegedly committed suicide by jumping off from a 23-storey building in Kandivali, Mumbai.
The woman identified as Kritika jumped off with her two-year-old daughter from the 18th floor of the building that was still under construction. Both mother and daughter were killed instantly.
Kritika, her husband Kaushal who works as a construction contractor, daughter Jaini and her in-laws were staying in a flat at Shankar Galli area in Kandivali after the building they were living in was taken up for redevelopment, DNA newspaper quoted police as saying.
The Patels were allotted a flat on the 18th floor of the high-rise building, from where Kritika committed suicide.
On Monday afternoon, Kritika picked Jaini from a playschool and entered the building, saying that she wanted to check the construction progress. The watchman did not stop Kritika as residents regularly come to review the work being done.
She then went up to her flat, took off her handbag and Jaini's schoolbag and jumped off the building with her daughter. Both of them landed on the elevated loft on the fifth floor in a pool of blood, DNA said.
The construction workers at the site heard a loud thud and immediately rushed to the spot.
Police found a suicide note in Kritika's handbag in which she held no one responsible for her death. Police suppose that the death note was written minutes before she jumped.
According to Mumbai Mirror the death note said: "I'm to be blamed for the recent problems faced by my family, and I realise the family expenses have shot up because of me. I haven't been able to make anyone happy. Nobody is responsible for the step I'm taking, certainly not my husband and in-laws, who took good care of me."
"I love Jenny the most, and have never left her alone, even for a day. Hence, I'm taking her with me," the note said.
Police have registered a case of accidental death.
