In yet another appalling incident of gang rape in Kolkata city, six men raped a married woman in south Kolkata on Friday night, the Press Trust of India reported.
The incident occurred in Golf Garden area of the city, near Jadavpur police station, where the lady was on her way home from a medical store.
She had gone out to buy medicine for her daughter when suddenly six men, who were working as labourers at a construction site nearby, attacked and raped the woman after dragging her inside an under-constructed building. She was later rescued by locals and sent home.
According to the report, no police complaint was filed yet.
Gang rape cases are on the rise in the city. Last week, another woman was abducted and gang raped in South Kolkata by ten men, while she was returning home from work.
The 26-year-old was bundled into a car from a busy street near Chetla and taken to a house, where she was stripped and raped by at least two of the attackers.
Next morning, the victim was dumped in an unconscious state at the same place from where she was kidnapped. The victim lodged a complaint at Charu Market police station.
Both the incidents occurred just a few months after the infamous Park Street rape case in February, when a 37-year-old woman was raped in a moving car. The woman was returning from a nightclub in central Kolkata when she was raped at gunpoint.
In June, another housewife was raped at the backseat of a moving taxi when she was returning from a city hospital after visiting her ailing husband at around 11.00 pm. The attacker snatched her gold chain, stole money, and raped her before dropping her near Entally.
The accused was arrest by the city police next morning from his house in Park Circus after the victim had filed a complaint in a nearby police station.
