A woman and her three daughters were strangled at their house in Uttar Pradesh's Etawah district on Tuesday.
The body of Neha, 30, was found in the apartment while the bodies of her three daughters -- Tulsi (7), Mohini (4) and Kallo (3) -- were thrown off the fourth floor of the building at Kanshiram Colony in Civil Lines.
The incident came to light when people noticed three girls lying in a pool of blood near the building. Two of the girls were declared dead at the spot while the third girl was faintly breathing. She was rushed to the hospital. However, she died soon.
The police found that the door of the house was unlocked and wheat flour and kitchen utensils were strewn around indicating that there was a struggle before they were killed.
A police investigator said, "Certain leads indicate that the women and kids were murdered to take revenge".
Neha's husband said that he was not at home when the incident took place. He had left home for work on Monday and hadn't planned on returning for the next two days. He has been taken into custody for questioning, according to SSP Etawah Ashok Tripathi.
The investigators went on to claim that there could have been more than one killer. Alok Singh, the Inspector General of Police, Kanpur said, "More than one person can be involved in the murder. We are questioning suspects and working on the leads available."
The neighbours did not notice or hear anything unusual during the time of the murders.
