Google and Microsoft mobile updates are expected to go hand in hand this year. Microsoft has promised to start rolling out its latest Windows 10 Mobile to eligible devices starting this year after failing to meet its December deadline. But the major software update for Windows Phone 8 and Windows Phone 8.1 devices is coming soon, Microsoft's official Twitter page @LumiaHelp has revealed.
Currently, Windows 10 Mobile is only found on Lumia 950 and Lumia 950XL. We have already listed the eligible devices that will receive Windows 10 Mobile in a previous post. As the process begins this year, Lumia users will be able to enjoy a slew of new features that come with Windows 10 Mobile.
The Twitter account of Lumia Help did not reveal a specific date for Windows 10 Mobile rollout, but an anonymous source revealed the official rollout would begin as early as next week. According to NokiaPowerUser, Microsoft is expected to make mobile related announcements on 12 January and also launch a high-end mid-range device Lumia 850.
"We're working to make Windows 10 available to eligible Lumia smartphones running Windows Phone 8.1 as an upgrade, (sic)" tweeted the official @LumiaHelp account. "No specific release date has been announced yet, but we're sure that it will be released soon."
In order to be eligible for Windows 10 Mobile, users need to have at least 8GB free memory and Lumia Denim (Windows Phone 8.10.14219.341 or above) running on their phones. Even though your phone might have the minimum requirement to run Windows 10 Mobile, not all devices will support certain features such as Continuum and USB OTG, that require advance hardware and GPU configurations, Microsoft revealed in a Support document.
