Judy Murray sparked a media storm on the third day of Wimbledon, handing out free coffee to queuing punters on the hottest day of 2015 so far.

The mother of tennis stars Andy and Jamie Murray surprised morning queuers by serving Lavazza coffee outside the grounds the championships in SW19. Despite the stifling weather, the hot beverages were quickly snapped up by members of the public.

Its not really a day for coffee but obviously its very popular and its free, Murray told Wimbledon TV. She was joined in serving out coffee by Polish tennis star Caroline Wozniacki and Toni Nadal, uncle and coach of two-time Wimbledon champion Rafa Nadal.

The third day of Wimbledon comes as London faces a heatwave, with temperatures at the All England Club expected to hit over 40°C.

Murray called for the men to be allowed to implement the heat rule – where play is stopped in very high temperatures to give the players a 10-minute break – in line with the womans tour.

I think the men should adopt it as well, especially because they have to play best of five sets and a slam is such a tough thing to play.

I know you get a day between the matches but if youre going to win a slam you need to win seven matches in 13 days, she said.

Todays Wimbledon draw sees defending mens champion Novak Djokovic in action against Finlands Jarkko Nieminen, Serena Williams versus Hungarys Timea Babos and Britains Heather Watson against Slovakias Daniela Hantuchova.
