Vijay's most-awaited film "Thalaivaa" ("Leader") is all set for a grand release next month. The makers are confident that "Thalaivaa" will do better than Vijay's last release "Thuppakki."
"Thuppakki", directed by AR Murugadoss, had collected slightly over ₹125 crore at the box office, according to estimates made by the film's producer Kalaipuli S Dhanu.
"Thalaivaa" producer Chandraprakash Jain is positive that his film will outperform "Thuppakki" and join the ₹150-crore club in the industry, reported The New Indian Express.
"Definitely, every project will exceed its conceived budget and Thalaivaa did as well. But it has more business than we expected. The television rights alone have been sold at a never-before amount for a Vijay flick. I'm sure Thalaivaa will collect more than Thuppakki," Chandraprakash told the daily.
Directed by AL Vijay, "Thalaivaa" is set in Mumbai and is about a common man who turns into a leader. The rest of the cast includes Amala Paul, Santhanam, Sathyaraj, Ragini Nandwani, Rajiv Pillai, Y.Gee.Mahendran and Manobala in pivotal roles.
The trailer of "Thalaivaa", which was launched along with the film's music in June, has already generated a lot of expectations among Vijay fans. The film's songs, including "Vaanganna Vanakkanganna", sung by the actor, are topping the musical charts. Music composer GV Prakash, who has worked in director Vijay's films - "Madrasapattinam" and "Deiva Thirumagal", has provided the soundtrack for "Thalaivaa" as well.
"Thalaivaa", deemed as an action entertainer, is likely to get released in the third week of August. According to reports, the makers are eyeing 9 August as the release date. However, an official announcement on the same is yet to come.
"Thalaivaa" will have a big solo release in Tamil Nadu and is expected to have a good opening at the box office. But the Vijay starrer will be facing tough competition from other language films including Shah Rukh Khan's "Chennai Express" and Telugu actor Pawan Kalyan's "Atharintiki Daaredi" in global markets.
