"Mankatha" has always been considered Bollywood material. The industry had felt that the story and stylish treatment were best suited for global Hindi audience.
The movie tells the story of a gang that steals betting money and how one man eliminates other members of the gang to walk out with all the money.
Ajith Kumar, who was seen as a suspended cop and the kingpin of the gang, had played the lead role and shared screen space with Arjun Sarja (CBI officer), Trisha Krishnan (Ajith's love interest), Vaibhav, Mahat, Premji, Ashwin and Lakshmi Rai.
Produced by Dhayanidhi Alagiri of Cloud Nine Movies, "Mankatha" was a runaway hit. Ajith was seen as out-and-out baddie in the film.
Coming back to Venkat Prabhu, he is busy with his forthcoming supernatural thriller "Masss". Nayantara and Pranitha are the female lead roles in the movie, which will hit screens on 1 May.
