Westworld has just aired three episodes, but it has become an instant hit due to its unique storyline, something that was earlier witnessed with Game of Thrones. Interestingly, the tone of both these shows is somewhat similar, and this has fans speculating the possibility of a crossover.
When Entertainment Weekly asked husband-and-wife duo Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy about the idea, the showrunners said that author George R. R. Martin has already discussed the possibility with them. Martin is the author of A Song of Ice and Fire series, the source material for HBO's Game of Thrones.
However, Joy dismissed the crossover idea saying it would imply that Game of Thrones' dragons are androids and not the fierce creatures fans have come to love.
"I need to believe that dragons are real," she told the media outlet. "I want them to be a real thing. So as much as I love George, I can't lose that for myself!"
"We love George and our daughter's first trip anywhere in the world was out to Santa Fe for a screening of The Prestige at his theatre, the Jean Cocteau," Nolan said. "He's a lovely guy and a stunning writer and it's flattering he would encourage a crossover. We should be so lucky."
Westworld has been enjoying good ratings ever since it premiered and the third episode saw 2.1 million viewers tuning in to watch the sci-fi drama. However, this week's numbers might take a hit due to the premiere of The Walking Dead Season 7.
Westworld airs Sundays on HBO. Season 7 of Game of Thrones is currently in production and it will air in the summer of 2017.
