Will 'Super Nani', 'Fury', 'Gone Girl' Affect 'Happy New Year'?

Shah Rukh Khan's "Happy New Year", which has done superb business in the first week, will clash with some big-ticket Bollywood and Hollywood movies, which are likely to take a toll on its collection at the Indian box office in its second week.

New Bollywood movies such as "Super Nani", "Fireflies", "Mumbai Can Dance Saala" and "Roar - Tigers of Sunderbans" are scheduled to release in theatres on 31 October. Among the four films, "Super Nani" is the most-hyped film as it marks the comeback of popular yesteryear actress Rekha. The makers have massively promoted the film and its lead stars Rekha and Sharman Joshi have appeared on several hit shows to promote the film.

The makers of "Super Nani" have planned for a massive release and they are quite confident of its success. "Grand Masti" fame Indra Kumar, who has directed the Rekha starrer, says that "Super Nani" and "Happy New Year" belong to two different genres and they are set in two different worlds. They woo different classes of audience. Hence, there is no question of clash between the two.

Meanwhile, three Hollywood movies are set to invade the theatres in the country on 31 October. Among them, "Fury" and "Gone Girl" are most-talked-about and highly-anticipated films. Both the films belong to two different genres such as war saga and mystery thriller and they boast of heroes such as Brad Pitt and Ben Affleck respectively, who are two of the most popular Hollywood actors in the country.

All three movies have heavily been promoted in the country and their promos have created a lot of curiosity among film goers, who are desperately waiting to watch them. "Super Nani" is expected to release in large number of single screens across the country, while "Fury" and "Gone Girl" occupy maximum number of multiplexes.

"Super Nani", "Fury" and "Gone Girl" belong to three most popular genres in the country and they are different from that of "Happy New Year". They offer more choices for different classes of audiences this weekend. They are expected to snatch a huge chuck of screen count from the Shah Rukh Khan starrer, thereby affecting the latter's collection at the domestic box office in its second week.

However, experts in B-Town feel that "Happy New Year" will not suffer due to new releases. "Considering their cast and high-profile release globally "Gone Girl" and "Fury" would under normal circumstances, get major releases. But "Happy New Year" is expected to sustain significantly in the second week," Bollywood Hungama quoted a spokesperson from a leading multiplex chain as saying. 

He predicts that "Happy New Year" will once again top the domestic business chart in its second week. "There are three Hindi and three Hollywood releases lined up for next week. Some of them would have to be either be postponed or relegated to odd timings. "Happy New Year" will rule the second week. Films that come in the way will suffer," added the spokesperson.
