Oppo, which is known more for its smartphones, is now venturing into an unfamiliar terrain with its next generation UDP-203 Ultra HD 4K Blu-ray player. The product was announced at the recent Custom Electronic Design & Installation Association (CEDIA) Expo, creating lots of curiosity among gadget lovers.
The Chinese company has confirmed that the UDP-203 Ultra HD 4K Blu-ray player is in active development and will be able to release it by the end of this year. However, it hasn't announced the exact release date.
Oppo has started taking sign-ups for the player on its website for those who want to known more about the player in the months leading up to its release. However, it is yet to reveal details, including specifications.
Interestingly, Chris Heinonen has tweeted that the UDP-203 Ultra HD 4K Blu-ray player will come with a price tag of $499. He also posted a photo of the purported product with dual-HDMI ports, analog 7.1 audio output and two USB jacks.
The Oppo Ultra HD Blu-ray player will take on Panasonic DMP-UB900 and DMP-UB700, Samsung UBD-K8500 and Microsoft Xbox One when it is released.
Sony too announced its 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray player with model number UBP-X1000ES at the CEDIA Expo, but it will be released in spring 2017. The player is compatible with Ultra HD Blu-ray discs as well as video streaming in full 4K resolution and High Dynamic Range (HDR).
It is to be seen if Oppo Ultra HD Blu-ray player will survive the competition with Panasonic and Samsung having already gained a stronghold in the market.
