The Indian Super League (ISL) 2015 is nearing its business end and the points table is nicely poised, with all the eight teams battling for the four spots in the semi finals.
Atletico de Kolkata have had injury problems right from the start of the tournament. They lost their marquee player Helder Postiga after the opening game of the ISL 2015.
Iain Hume took the onus on himself to lead from the front in the forward line. Things were not falling in place for the defending champions. They lost the momentum they gained right at the start of the ISL 2015. Arata Izumi, Javi Lara, Jaime Gavilan and skipper Borja Fernandez monitored the midfield and won them some game too.
But now its that time in the league when things get a little more serious. The battles are not won easily as all the teams will be eyeing those four spots in the semi-final. At this crucial juncture, Atletico de Kolkata suffered yet another blow as Javi Lara has flown back to Spain because of a groin injury; he will not be available for the rest of the ISL 2015.
Lara has been replaced by Jorge Alonso Martin who hails from Spain as well. Martin has played for Valadoid and Racing Santander in the Spanish league but little is known about this midfielder who is ready to don the red and white stripes for the rest of the tournament.
Dejan Lekic has also been roped in by the Sourav Ganguly co-owned ISL 2014 champions. Lekic has featured in Osasuna, Sporting Gijon and several other clubs inn Europe. His experience might just give a new dimension to the Atletico de Kolkata attacking line.
However, if Postiga is declared fit for the next game against FC Goa, will Lekic make his way into the starting XI? Postiga is a player who definitely has higher impact on the game but we should not be judging Lekic's capabilities as well. Who knows, he might just power Atletico de Kolkata into the semi finals of the pompous league.
