Reliance Jio, which has become the talk of the town due to its rumoured extension of 4G LTE free Jio Welcome Offer for at least the next three months, now has an event scheduled for December 1 where chairman Mukesh Ambani will make a formal speech. Jio loyalists are expecting the company to extend the free Welcome Offer, but there are hints that something unconventional would surface during Mukesh Ambani's speech.
Ambani is scheduled to begin his address at 1:30 pm.
He is expected to announce 4G-enabled feature phones, which would be available for less than Rs 2,000, TeleAnalysis reported, adding that the name of this 4G-LTE-enabled feature-phone would be LYF Easy.
The USP of this LYF Easy, as reported earlier, would be the affordability factor, as well as its plans to reach the tier-2 and tier-3 areas of India. Technical specifications of the LYF Easy are yet to surface at this juncture, but this handset is likely to offer video calling over LTE networks. This means that there would be a front camera.
Reliance Jio has announced 4G tariff plans to suit almost every budget. All these plans offer free voice calls across India, along with free roaming. Therefore, Jio's 4G feature phones would be an attractive launch too, since a significant chunk of rural population uses phones for voice calls rather than for internet.
Currently, it is also being said that Reliance Jio will make yet another announcement on December 28, which happens to be Dhirubhai Ambani's birthday, about the extension of the free Jio Welcome Offer.
Ambani's speech at 1:30 pm can be watched on Jio's official Digital Life YouTube channel.
