The next Halo title in line is the massively anticipated Halo 5: Guardians. Although there have been a number of things said and written about the new game in the recent past, almost all of it fall in the rumour bandwagon. And as it seems, there's more to follow-up on the game now, courtesy to hardcore fans and data-miners.
According to reports, fans playing the Halo 5: Guardians alternate reality game, known as "Hunt the Signal," have stumbled upon some exciting images that suggest a return of The Flood, the series' zombie stand-in.
There are gifs that are doing rounds on the Internet that show images of a cell-shaped structure alongside what seems like mountain peak-like structures rising on the surface of the cell. And according to some fans, this is 343 Industries' way of hinting at the return of The Flood in Halo 5: Guardians.
In case you weren't aware, 343 Industries recently kicked off an ARG competition called Hunt the Signal, where fans are needed to work their way through an extended series of puzzles, building up to Halo 5.
"This week Hunt the Signal competitors have stumbled upon a set of images that has hardcore Halo lore fans captivated. They're four gifs of strange looking cells, the first one even growing spikes all across its surface and the rest appearing to breathe. The final image shows a strand of DNA that is has been broken apart in some areas to be recombined into something new," a Geek Snack report states.
As expected, the official Halo forums are currently buzzing about the real identity of these images, with two different fan theories already in place, related to the images. While the first theory suggests that the images are a hint from the developers that the Flood will return to Halo 5, the second theory claims that the images are actually of the virus from the live action series Halo Nightfall.
[SPOILER ALERT: The Virus came from a portion of the Halo ring that was destroyed in Halo CE, known to specifically kill humans. However, that piece of the Halo ring was destroyed at the end of Nightfall.]
For the time being, nothing has been made official by 343 Industries about the game, and everything unorthodox you come across related to it has to be taken with a pinch of salt. Stay tuned for more updates!
