Following the controversial exit of Kris (Wu Yifan), Luhan and Tao (Huang Zitao) from SM Entertainment, it is now being speculated that Lay may be the next EXO member to terminate his contract with the record label. The main reason behind such speculations is that currently Lay is the only Chinese member in the popular South Korean-Chinese boy band.
Recently, a fake poster of Chinese fundraising show "Bazaar Charity Night" surfaced on social media, giving rise to another controversy about the singer. It hinted at a collaboration between the Kpop star and his ex-teammates.
The poster captured the attention of several EXO fans, who were eagerly waiting for a reunion of their favourite music icons. But, SM Entertainment clarified the rumours and stated that the poster is fake, according to Koreaboo.
However, this is not the first time that Lay's departure has become a topic of discussion among the followers of the boy band. When the singer stayed away from the promotional activities of the group's second studio album "EXODUS" in April, the fans assumed that he is preparing for a solo career.
But, the 23-year-old was quick enough to clarify the rumours and confirm that he will not terminate the contract mainly because he wants to keep his promise to the EXO members.
Recently, Lay even revealed that he is happy for his ex-teammates Kris, Luhan and Tao, but has no plans to follow their footsteps. "If they are happy, then I will give them my blessings. I hope that they will do well all the way. However, I will go my own path. I am very stern when it comes to what I demand of myself. I do all the things that I can do by continuously working very hard," he said.
The singer is all set to release his semi-autobiography "Independent 24" in China on 7 October and he is currently busy with the promotional activities of his upcoming movie "Oh My God".
