It is highly unlikely that "Thalaivaa" will get released on the eve of Independence Day (15 August).
The Vijay starrer was expected make it to the theatres this weekend, but it seems fans have to wait a little longer for the film's release. As of now, only one Tamil film - "Aadhalal Kaadhal Seiveer", has been confirmed for release.
"Multiplexes have firmed up their Aug 15 programming. Lone Tamil release - Aadhalal Kaadhal Seiveer. It looks like No #Thalaivaa this week!" senior film journalist Sreedhar Pillai tweeted.
"Thalaivaa", which is already facing issues with its release in Tamil Nadu, has hit another roadblock. Theatre owners from all over Tamil Nadu held an emergency meeting on Tuesday to discuss about "Thalaivaa" release.
The film, which was initially scheduled to hit the theatres on 9 August, was offered Minimum Guarantee (MG) by theatre owners. It is a method to sell a film based on an estimation that it would earn a certain amount in theatres, which helps in fixing the rate of the film. The estimated collection amount is known as Minimum Guarantee, reported Behindwoods.com.
Due to the delay in "Thalaivaa" release, theatre owners have decided to release the film on profit sharing basis and not on MG basis.
Another big issue that the makers are facing is piracy. The "Thalaivaa" release delay has paved way for the sale of pirated DVDs of the film. The "Thalaivaa" team and fans are working hard to keep the sellers at bay. They are also functioning round the clock to remove links of the film illegally uploaded on the internet.
There is still uncertainty as to when the film would release in Tamil Nadu, though some reports suggest that the "Thalaivaa" team is looking forward to get the film released at the earliest by 15 August. However, there is no official confirmation on the same. It is doubtful if "Thalaivaa" would make it to the theatres during this weekend.
Directed by AL Vijay, "Thalaivaa" has Amala Paul playing the female lead. The rest of the cast includes Santhanam, Sathyaraj, Ragini, Rajeev Pillai, Ponvannan, Abhimanyu Singh and Suresh.
