The Big Bang Theory is heading into its 12th year, but it looks like the CBS comedy show may have another year or two in its bucket. If reports are to be believed then the award-winning show may run a little longer than previously expected.
According to Hollywood Reporter, CBS Entertainment president Kelly Kahl recently said that the network is in "preliminary discussions" with Warner Bros. Television producers to continue making The Big Bang Theory for yet another season.
"We don't believe it's the final year. We are in preliminary discussions to renew the show with Warner Bros," Kelly briefed the reporters.
When CBS renewed the Warner Bros.-produced TV series for the 12th season, officially turning it into the longest-running comedy series on TV, many wondered that this might be the end of the series. But the show's lead actress talked about her excitement. After the announcement, Kaley Cuoco told E! News that she would love to continue playing the role of Penny as long as she can.
"I'm just proud of this long-lasting kind of comedy we've given for so many years, and I think it'd be very stupid to turn down another season."
Similar to Kaley, show's creator Chuck Lorry acknowledged in 2017 that producers never imagined that they would get season 11.
"One could easily presume [season 12] would be the end of the series," Lorry said at that time.
Having said that, there are many who thinks that they have enough of The Big Bang Theory and the network should concentrate on other shows. For the starters, the show has definitely run its course.
Over the years, the story of The Big Bang Theory has gone through multiple changes. Cuoco's Penny finally tied the knot with Johnny Galecki's Leonard Hofstadter. Jim Parsons' Sheldon Cooper was seen committing to Mayim Bialik's Amy Farrah Fowler, and finally getting married to her. Simon Helberg's Howard Wolowitz and Melissa Rauch's Bernadette have two babies.
Secondly, watching a show for around a decade is indeed a long time. As of the 11th season, the show broadcasted 255 episodes. The hit show, Friends, had ended with season 10.
The makers decided to end it when the show was at its peak. Over the years, fans saw how the characters' lives changed and how much they have evolved. The Big Bang Theory characters enjoyed a similar life to it. Many think that the show should end at the right time and the makers should not just drag the story.
