It appears like Varun Dhawan is in a hurry to shed his lover boy image and showcase some intense look. But the actor's sincere attempt has left him guilt struck.
Dhawan who will be next seen in Sriram Raghavan's "Badlapur", was reportedly shooting the final scene in a Mumbai studio, when the actor accidently hit a punch on his co-star and veteran actor Vinay Pathak.
The shot required some hardcore action sequences, but the "Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania" actor was so engrossed in the scene that he ended up landing a powerful punch on Pathak, who immediately collapsed on the floor, leaving the entire unit panicked.
"It was late at night and the two actors were shooting a scene with Radhika Apte. As part of the scene, Varun had to shove Vinay really hard. Varun who was immersed in the scene gave Vinay a power-packed push. Vinay collapsed on the floor and couldn't get back on his feet," a source close to the production team told Mumbai Mirror.
Pathak was immediately taken to a nearby hospital, where he was diagnosed with a small fracture.
"They shoot was put on hold and Vinay was wheeled to a nearby medical facility. He was diagnosed with a hairline fracture," the source added.
"It was a difficult scene and I didn't mean to hurt Vinay. My character in the film, Raghu, has shades of grey and there are several fight scenes. This is not the first time someone has got injured. Even Nawaz (Nawazuddin Siddiqui) and I have been injured in the past but not as seriously as Vinay," Dhawan told to MM.
Meanwhile, "Badlapur" shooting wrapped up on 15 August, which also freed Dhawan from his heavy beard look that he has been sporting for the past few months. "I couldn't wait to get rid of it, I was so thrilled to finally shave it off," said the "Student of the Year" actor.
"Badlapur" is produced by Saif Ali Khan's home Production, Illuminati Films. Apart from Dhawan, the action thriller also features Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Yami Gautam, Huma Qureshi and Radhika Apte in pivotal roles and is slated to release next year.
