Former Bihar Governor Satya Pal Malik has now been appointed as the Governor of Jammu and Kashmir on August 21, Tuesday. Malik will replace former NN Vohra who served as the J&K Governor for almost a decade.
Satya Pal Malik, Bharatiya Janata Party's former national vice-president, had previously served as the Union Minister of State, Parliamentary Affairs and Tourism.
The 72-year-old political leader was also a member of Rajya Sabha from Uttar Pradesh during two terms -- 1980 to 1986 and 1986 to 1992 -- and was a member of the UP Legislative Assembly during 1974 and 1977.
Malik completed his B.Sc and LLB from Meerut University. He also holds a Diploma in Parliamentary Affairs from Institute of Constitutional and Parliamentary Studies, reports Indian Express.
Other governors who were appointed by the Centre are -- Ganga Prasad for Sikkim, Tathagata Roy for Meghalaya and Kaptan Singh Solanki for Tripura. Satyadev Narayan Arya is appointed as Governor of Haryana while Baby Rani Maurya is the new Governor of Uttarakhand.
