The war between the telecom operators in India is drifting between great offers and quality service. Reliance Jio, which is leading with the best offers on 4G data and voice calls, is now making sure its users get the service they're paying for.
According to the latest report by Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) for the month of April 2017, Reliance Jio emerged as the fastest 4G network in India. In fact, the new telco hit its highest download speed of 19.12 megabit per second in April as compared to 16.48 mbps in March.
With this latest victory, Reliance Jio has managed to top the chart in 4G network speed for four consecutive months. TRAI's report is based on the information gathered by MySpeed app on a real-time basis.
TRAI has also collected and computed data download speeds of other networks in India. The results are quite surprising.
Following Reliance Jio's lead in the month of April was Idea Cellular with a download speed of 13.70 mbps, and Vodafone at 13.38 mbps. In a shocking revelation, Airtel – India's largest telecom operator, came in fourth with an average download speed of 10.15 mbps in the month of April. That's a really huge gap between the two arch-rivals.
However, Airtel's statistics for April aren't as bad as they look. In March, the telco had clocked just 7.66 mbps, which placed Airtel third in the list. Vodafone and Idea, which are marching towards a $23 billion merger and a 35 percent market share together, witnessed a much better improvement as compared to Airtel.
Vodafone and Idea Cellular logged 5.66 mbps and 8.33 mbps in the month of March, respectively. Both telcos' download speeds nearly doubled in April, as per TRAI's report.
But that's just TRAI's report, and results may differ when looking at test results from Ookla and OpenSignal. For instance, the last report by OpenSignal ranked Airtel as the fastest LTE download network with 11.5 mbps speed and Jio as the slowest network with a measly 3.92 mbps.
International Business Times, India, had also run a live speed test between Reliance Jio and Airtel, where the latter took lead. Watch the video below:
