Farhan Akhtar became a household name with "Dil Chahta Hai." The story of three friends — Akash, Sameer and Siddharth — played by Aamir Khan, Saif Ali Khan and Akshaye Khanna, respectively, has achieved cult status.
While these stars have touched millions of hearts with their endearing performances, the filmmaker had a different casting in mind. Hrithik Roshan was approached for the role of Siddharth, the painter and philosopher, Catch News reported.
The superstar turned down the project as he was working on "Fiza," "Mission Kashmir" and "Yaadein" at that point in time. Farhan went to Abhishek Bachchan for the part, but he too rejected it. Later, Aamir agreed to be part of the project but he was keen on playing Akash's character.
Interestingly, this isn't the first film Hrithik has rejected. He was reportedly offered "Bunty Aur Babli," "Rang De Basanti," "Swades," and "Main Hoon Na."
"Dil Chahta Hai" was a coming-of-age film, which established Farhan as one of the most promising directors of the industry. The comedy-drama explored relationships way differently from what films of the decade were doing.
Ever since his first one, Farhan has directed three films — "Lakshya," "Don" and "Don 2."
Hrithik will next be seen in "Mohenjo Daro" and "Kaabil." While the first one is scheduled for an Aug. 12 release, the later will arrive in theatres Jan. 26, 2017.
The Ashutosh Gowariker epic-adventure film is set in the primordial times and will see him romance newcomer Pooja Hegde. "Kaabil," directed by Sanjay Gupta, features him as a visually-impaired person. The revenge-drama also stars Yami Gautam in a key role.
