Lovebirds Upen Patel and Karishma Tanna narrowly escaped an accident, which could have resulted in fatal injuries.
The incident took place when the couple -- along with their "Nach Baliye 7" choreographers Bhawna Khanduja and Vaibhav Ghuge -- was travelling to Madh Island, near Mumbai, few days ago.
While going to Madh Island, the driver lost control of the car when he fell asleep. The driver didn't notice that a four-wheeler was approaching from the opposite side, but Upen, who was seated next to the driver, saw the four-wheeler and took charge of the wheel.
"He later told Upen that he had nodded off because working double shifts for a few days had taken a toll on him. So, the actor decided to drive for the rest of the journey," a source told Hindustan Times.
"They (Karishma, Bhawna and Vaibhav) thanked Upen for averting the crash, but they did not reprimand the driver for his negligence as he was fatigued," the source added.
The "36 China Town" actor confirmed the news and said that he managed to escape the accident.
"While travelling to Madh Island, I suddenly realised that the driver fell asleep and lost control over the car's steering. I had to quickly take control. The driver later informed me that he has been working double shifts for three days, so I made him eat and rest for some time. Thankfully, I was seated next to him, or the situation could have been worse," Upen told the daily.
Upen and Karishma, who are called UpMa by their fans, started dating when they were inside the "Bigg Boss 8" house. The couple is now participating in celebrity dance reality show "Nach Baliye 7".
