Imran Khan hasn't quite lived up to the promise he showed in his debut film "Jaane Tu... Ya Jaane Na." Poor and risky career choices washed out the possibility of attaining superstardom, but then again, he says he wasn't looking at achieving any such thing.
It must have hit him hard when top actresses such as Deepika Padukone, Katrina Kaif, and Priyanka Chopra refused to work with him in "Katti Batti".
"It is true. Nikhil approached several top actresses including Priyanka Chopra, Katrina Kaif and Deepika Padukone. They all said no to Imran, and yes to the film. All of them wanted Nikhil to replace Imran which he refused to do," an insider told senior journalist Subhash K Jha.

This phase of darkness didn't kill his willingness to do better but it definitely has left some impact on him. In his recent interviews, he sounds wiser and more in control of himself.
Talking to The Asian Age, he says how there was a time when he was being offered 5 scripts a day from popular filmmaker and producers. Three back-to-back flops and his phone stopped ringing.
The two years he took to make his quasi-comeback wasn't a dull period, he read three scripts every week. But, he never acted prematurely taking up projects at random.
"Before I come on board, I make it clear that we need to have an open channel of communication, have loads of discussions. If a film fails then it is hung around my neck. If the blame is put on the producer and director, then it's a different matter. If I am the one that gets praised when a film works and gets blamed if it doesn't, then I want to be in control of it. I am not going to leave anything in your hands," Imran further elaborated.
