Salman Khan has been launching new talent into the industry for years. Sajid and Farhad Samji are two such people: They began their career as lyricists, graduated to being writers and are now filmmakers, with "Housefull 3" being their second film after "It's Entertainment."
Reminiscing their journey in Bollywood so far, the brothers told Catch News it was the "Sultan" star who had referred them to David Dhawan after lending a patient ear to what they had to offer in terms of music and composition.
Salman was apparently busy shooting for "Har Dil Jo Pyar Karega" when the director duo entered the studio area by bribing the watchmen and later requesting his driver for a meeting with the actor. Salman agreed to meet only for five minutes, adding that he would leave immediately if he didn't like what they had for him.
They impressed the superstar with their talent, singing their songs using a bucket as an percussion instrument. "Salman heard us for over one-and-a-half-hours and recommended us to David Dhawan, who signed us on for a film. That was our starting stage. And today, Salman Khan likes our work," Sajid said.
So basically, Sajid and Farhad wouldn't be on the helm for "Housefull 3" had it not been for Salman.
"We recently met Salman at the success bash of 'Baaghi.' He hugged both of us and silently whispered 'balti'. That was the only thing he said and we both felt so proud. Our journey can be described as 'From balti to Housefull 3'," the web portal quoted Sajid as saying.
"Housefull 3" stars Akshay Kumar, Riteish Deshmukh, Abhishek Bachchan, Jacqueline Fernandez, Lisa Haydon, Nargis Fakhri, Jackie Shroff, Chunky Pandey and Boman Irani in key roles. Scheduled to hit theatres on June 3, the comic caper is set to clash with one of Hollywood's action-packed franchise films "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows."
