The iOS 9 release date has finally arrived. On 9 September, Apple announced the new iPhone 6S (6S Plus) series will come with iOS 9 out-of-the-box, while the software will be made available on other devices only on 16 September.
The company hasn't officially revealed the specific time details of iOS 9 release, but the OTA (Over-The-Air) roll-out is said to start at 10:00am Pacific / 1:00pm Eastern time (22:30 pm IST, India), reported Redmond Pie, citing previous years' release pattern. The new iOS 9.0 is said to be smaller in size compared to the previous generation and yet it brings optimisation features to extend minimum one hour of battery life. It also comes with improved built-in features such as maps, refurbished maps app, news app and more.
Brief description of Apple iOS 9.0 features and improvements:
Better Battery: Apple has confirmed that the new iOS will come with battery optimisation and new power-saving mode that provide an additional hour of battery life. If the user chooses a 'low-power' mode, it can further extend the battery life.
Less Size: The new iOS 9.0 is said to be less in size compared to the previous version. This is really good news for 16GB based Apple device owners who were forced constantly to evaluate options to save or delete data so they can install new app or snap a photo.
New built-in apps: Apple says that popular built-in apps such as Notes have been completely re-designed to make it visually refreshing and also the interface has been simplified so that the user has easy access to edit tools.
The company has also improved Maps app for select global cities. It now supports metropolitan transit systems and schedules. Subway station entrances and exits are precisely mapped and the app also recommends the nearest delivery options for local food shops and malls.
Apple News: This app is the newest addition to inbuilt Apple iOS ecosystem. The company claims the application will provide real-time updates from the world's most influential news agencies. The app is also capable of intuitively understanding the tastes of the user and over time, and to independently recommend articles at free time.
Apple Pay: The company has added support for Discover, merchant rewards programmes and participating store in the Apple pay app.
Apple iPad specific improvements: To further enrich the user-experience on big-screen devices, the company has added Slide Over (lets user to work on two app simultaneously), Split View (splits screen so that user per two tasks at all time with screen re-size option based on priority), Picture-in Picture (lets user to continue Video/FaceTime call, while performing other tasks), app's keyboard, will now with shortcut-bar so that can edit and type faster and the last but not least, Multi-touch gesture has been added to select, edit and move text faster.
Other improvements include the enhanced security, performance, and smarter voice-assistant app, Siri.
