Arsenal have climbed to the second spot of the Premier League standings with a massive 5-1 win over West Ham on Saturday at the London Stadium. Alexis Sanchez was the hero of the day with a sensational hat-trick.
The Gunners started the match as favourites, and they played some brilliant football, and it was Mesut Ozil, who broke the deadlock for Arsenal in the 24th minute. From there on, there was no looking back for Arsenal, who were in a mood to destroy West Ham.
The former Barcelona star, who had assisted Ozil for the first goal, might not have been able to find the back of the net in the first half, but he did threaten Hammers' goal. He looked even sharper in the second 45 minutes, which was proving to be dangerous for West Ham when Sanchez had the ball on his feet.
It was in the 72nd minute of the game Sanchez scored his first from a difficult angle, and scored his next goal in the 80th minute, which was a long range shot. Suddenly there was rush of goals as West Ham's Andy Carroll and Arsenal' Alexander Oxlade-Chamberlain scored in the 83rd and 84th minute respectively. Sanchez also completed his hat-trick in the 86th minute, which was the last goal of the match, resulting in Arsenal's 5-1 win.
This has to be one of the best individual performances from an offensive player this season, and his manager Arsene Wenger was all praise for him after such a stunning show. The Chilean, with this hat-trick, has scored 13 goals this season.
"He has all the ingredients to be a top-class striker and he shows that in a game like that today again. He's quick, he's quick to close down, he can dribble, he has short back lift, he has a killer instinct," espn.in quoted Wenger as saying.
"It shows again that the South Americans at the moment in world football are the leading strikers. And you have to acknowledge that. If you look through the top strikers in Europe they are basically all South American."
