Two students from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kharagpur, drowned on Sunday while swimming at New Digha in Midnapore district, reports said.
Six students from IIT Kharagpur had come to New Digha (130 kms from Kharagpur) on early Sunday morning for an outing. The incident reportedly took place around 7.30 am.
The police have identified the victims as Aniruddha Kumar Raju, a native of Chandigarh and Rohit Tripathi from Bhopal. Aniruddha was a fourth year Aerospace Engineering student while Rohit was studying Civil Engineering.
While Rohit's body has been recovered, a search is on for Aniruddha.
