After being rocked by a series of rape cases last month, West Bengal is hit by yet another shocking rape case. Police have arrested two men for allegedly raping a newly-married woman and the victim's husband, who reportedly facilitated it, is absconding.
"Kartik Das and Raju Prasad were sent to custody by the court for their involvement in gang-raping a 19-year-old married woman. Her husband, who is suspected to have facilitated the crime, is absconding," CNN IBN quoted Howrah Deputy Commissioner of Police Sukesh Jain as saying.
The woman had married Bappa Ruidas a week before the rape took place. Her husband left the house when his friends Das and Prasad came to meet them on Wednesday night. The duo then raped her.
The accused were arrested after the woman lodged a police complaint on Thursday. The victim's husband, who has been named in the FIR, is absconding.
It may be recalled that five rape cases were registered in West Bengal in February alone.
