The Border Security Force (BSF) says the West Bengal government is welcoming Rohingya refugees even as the BSF adopts a tough posture against them on the Indo-Bangladesh border.

Speaking to mediapersons, BSF Director General KK Sharma said his force achieved a major success by preventing influx of Rohingya refugees into West Bengal from Bangladesh.

"But the same can't be said about the West Bengal government as it has been friendly to the refugees and set up special camps where 70 Rohingya families are living. An inquiry has been ordered to ascertain the number of people living in the camps," Sharma said.

"Though there haven't been large scale influx of the Myanmar-based refugees into India but a large number of them have assembled in Bangladesh and from time to time try to enter India. But we are alive to the situation and we are not letting them succeed because of our push-back policy," Sharma said.

"Rohingyas living in other parts of the country are coming under pressure at some places so they are coming to West Bengal because the state is friendly towards them and setting up camps for them. Most of the Rohingyas coming to live in these camps are coming from other parts of the country rather than Bangladesh," the DG said.
