West Bengal currently is in the headlines for the exposure of false doctors, almost en masse. People with false or no certification have been doing the physicians' job over the years. First one or two cases were found but now it has turned out to be an epidemic. The CID has reportedly arrested in the recent past over 500 fake doctors practising in government hospitals and private clinics in the state.
Amid all the stories of alleged fraudulence, one report published in Bengali daily Ei Samay will perhaps deliver the biggest shock. According to it, one such false doctor named Ajit Tiwari who landed in the CID's trap after issuing reports of medical tests had obtained his qualifying degree from 'Sung Chung University' from Korea (which Korea not mentioned)!
When one his reports were taken to Burdwan Medical College by a patient, Tiwari got exposed as the experts there dumbstruck to see the name of the university. However, Tiwari, who is an 'interventional endoscopist', has been working for a firm in Ranaghat in Nadia district of Bengal for a long time, even drawing a monthly salary of Rs 1 lakh, the report said. The laboratory where such false reports were made has also come under the CID's scanner.
According to sources in the CID, they were investigating whether the firm was working hand-in-gloves with Tiwari because of the fact that they neither questioned the designation nor the institution from which he had received his degree, the daily reported.
A health official from Bengal's East Burdwan district said they did not know whether such post called interventional endoscopist exists in medical science. He also said that they could not find any university by the name of Sung Chung despite searching the name on Google.
