John Abraham starrer "Welcome Back" has got a fantastic opening at the box office. On the release day, the Hindi film earned Rs 14.35 crore in India.
Leading trade tracker Taran Adarsh announced the news on Twitter. He wrote, "#WelcomeBack has an EXCELLENT Day 1... Fri ₹ 14.35 cr. India biz... Biz should MULTIPLY further over the weekend. SUPER!"
The business made by "Welcome Back" has stunned the traders as they had predicted the movie would make around Rs 10 crore - Rs 12 crore on its first day. The movie faced some financial issues at the last minute, leading to cancellation of shows at some centres. But, the uncertainty over the shows had little impact on the flick.
After getting decent response for the morning shows, the audience turnout for "Welcome Back" improved with each show. The traders could not understand this factor and they failed in their predictions.
"Welcome Back" has now become the third biggest opener of 2015 after Salman Khan's "Bajrangi Bhaijaan", which had raked in Rs 27.25 crore on the first day, and Akshay Kumar and Sidharth Malhotra's "Brothers", which had minted Rs 15.2 crore on the release day.
The Bollywood movie has managed to get good reviews from the audience. As a result, its first Saturday and Sunday are expected to see great business at the collection centres. The other factor that played a major role in its astounding response is the success of its first instalment, "Welcome" (2007).
"Welcome", starring Akshay Kumar, Katrina Kaif, Anil Kapoor and Nana Patekar, was a sleeperhit. Hence, the audience expect a lot from this flick and it seems like the film has not let them down.
It has been predicted that "Welcome Back" could reach the Rs 50 crore mark at the domestic box office in its first weekend itself. The advance bookings at metros indicate that the film could make remarkable business.
"Welcome Back" has been directed by Anees Bazmee. John Abraham, Nana Patekar, Shruti Haasan, Anil Kapoor, Paresh Rawal, Dimple Kapadia and others are part of the cast.
