John Abraham's "Welcome Back" has done magic at the US box office and the Bollywood film has earned $553,884 (Rs 3.70 crore) in its first weekend.
The Bollywood film was ranked at the 24th position in the US box office and second among Indian movies after Telugu film "Bhale Bhale Magadivoi", which made $697,012 (Rs 4.66 crore) from 90 screens in its first weekend, reports Bollywood Hungama.
The good word-of-mouth played the trick for "Welcome Back", which has become the third biggest opener of the year at the domestic and overseas box office after "Bajrangi Bhaijaan" and "Brothers. The film is expected to perform well at the US box office in the coming days.
Tamil movie "Thani Oruvan", in its second week, has done much better at the US box office. The Jayam Ravi starrer film, which had earned $74,510 (49.49 lakh) in the first weekend, has made $99,454 (Rs 66.39 lakh) from 36 screens to take its total tally to $199,216 (Rs 1.33 crore) in 10 days. The positive words by the audience and critics have helped the film boost its collections.
Katrina Kaif and Saif Ali Khan starrer "Phantom" has slowed down at the US box office. After making $207,921 (Rs 1.38 crore) from 93 screens in the first weekend, the Bollywood film could only earn $59,051 (Rs 39.23 lakh) to end its second weekend at $323,556 (Rs 2.16 crore).
Yet another Tamil film "Paayum Puli" made a decent debut by collecting $14,826 (Rs 9.88 lakh). It is followed by Salman Khan starrer "Bajrangi Bhaijaan", which has raked in $10,709 (Rs 7.94 lakh) from six screens. By the end of its eighth weekend, the total collection of the Hindi flick stands at $6,257,392 (Rs 41.82 crore).
Malayalam film "Loham" (total business till date - 16.29 lakh), Punjabi movie "Faraar" (total business till date - Rs 33.94 lakh), "Srimanthudu" (total business till date - Rs 19.26 crore), Hindi movie "Drishyam" (total business till date - Rs 3.68 crore), Hindi version of "Baahubali" (total business till date - Rs 3.21 crore), Kannada film "Uppi 2" (total business till date - Rs 26.04 lakh) and Bollywood flick "Brothers" (total business till date - Rs 3.05 crore) are the other Indian films screened in the US in the last weekend.
